Versailles
Just a short hop from Paris, Versailles is a wealthy suburb, catapulted into spectacular fashion by Louis XIV when he chose it as the location for his court, the Château de Versailles. Picture perfect in its entirety, the largest draw remains the ornate and extravagant Château with its seven thousand rooms and its huge collection of art, furniture and sculpture. Visit the famous Hall of Mirrors (where the Treaty of Versailles was signed at the end of World War I) and explore the extensive gardens. If you’re lucky – or plan ahead – you may even catch a fountain show!
