Trip Overview

Start your Southern Italian vacation by first spending three days in the eternal city, Rome. Then travel to the ancient city of Naples for a night before heading further south through the Italian countryside all the way down to Sicily. A highlight of the journey is the train rolling onto a ferry to take you across the straits of Messina to Sicily. The train then continues along the beautiful coastline to the famous resort town of Taormina.

DAY 1 - LONDON TO GENEVA
Your adventure begins in London's St Pancras station, where you'll board the Eurostar from London to Paris. Change onto a high-speed train and whiz through France towards Switzerland in just over three hours. On arrival in Geneva, make your way to your hotel for an overnight stay. Spend the evening enjoying a tasty meal at a local lakeside restaurant or take a relaxing boat trip out on the lake and admire the city’s cosmopolitan feel and the stunning backdrop of the Alps and the Jura mountains. (Overnight in Geneva)

 DAY 2 - GENEVA TO ROME
After breakfast, take the train from Geneva to Rome via Milan. Relax whilst the train cuts through the Alps on the famous Simplon Pass across the border into Italy. In addition to the stunning mountain scenery, the train runs next to Lakes Lugano and Como. After a quick change in Milan you arrive into Rome station in the afternoon. On arrival, check in at your hotel for a two-night stay. (Overnight in Rome) B

 DAY 3 - ROME
Enjoy a day of sightseeing in this historic city using your hop on hop off card. Why not visit the museums, galleries or even the Zoo at the beautiful Villa Borghese gardens, don't miss the spectacular Trevi Fountain and a wander through the Piazza Navona where you will find some excellent examples of Baroque architecture, including the Sant' Agnese in Agone church and the Fountain of Four Rivers. (Overnight in Rome)

 DAY 4 - ROME TO NAPLES
After breakfast, take the high-speed Eurostar Italia train to the Southern Italian city of Naples. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel for an overnight stay. Naples is Italy's third largest city and its UNESCO World Heritage listed historic centre is the largest in Europe, offering everything from classical ruins to medieval castles. The finest of the castles, the Castel Nuevo, is one of the city's major landmarks. You can also indulge in some retail therapy at the lively Galleria Umberto or visit one of Naples' great museums such as the National Archaeological Museum, offering one of the world's most extensive collections of Roman artefacts.  DAY 5 - NAPLES TO TAORMINA
Leave Naples and take the Intercity train to Sicily. The train travels south through the Italian countryside and once at the Straits of Messina the train boards a boat to take you from mainland Italy to Sicily. The train then continues along the coast to the famous resort town of Taormina. On arrival, check in at your hotel for a three-night stay.  Surrounded by stunning natural beauty such as the impressive Mount Etna and sweeping bays alongside the Mediterranean Sea, Taormina is a picture-perfect destination.  DAY 6 - TAORMINA
Spend two full days exploring Taormina. The city still holds an abundance of cultural sights such as the striking Greek Theatre where performances still take place, the 13th century Cathedral of Saint Nicola and the16th century Palace of the Dukes of San Stefano, all worth visiting during your stay. (Overnight in Taormina) B

 DAY 7 - TAORMINA
Enjoy breakfast in the hotel and they why not head out to the Corso Umberto, the city's prime shopping street. Home to elegant boutiques, classy cafes, plenty of trattorias and pizzerias to experience the world famous Sicilian cuisine (and wine of course!). (Overnight in Taormina) B

 DAY 8 - TAORMINA TO LONDON
Leave Taormina today and travel back by train up to Catania. Here, make your way to the airport and fly back to London. If you prefer to take the train back to the UK, with an overnight stay in Turin, just speak to one of our Rail Specialists about the details. B
