DAY 1 - UK TO ROME
Enjoy a flight from the UK to Rome and on arrival; check in at your hotel for a two-night stay. If you prefer to take the train to Rome, with an overnight stay in Geneva, one of our Rail Specialists would be happy to help you with this. Once in Rome, enjoy two days exploring Europe's largest open-air museum. Shrouded in legend, Rome is home to hundreds of ancient artefacts, architecture, beautiful churches and Basilicas such as St Peter's and St Martin's. Take a tour of the Vatican to discover the fascinating stories behind the smallest country in the world. Stop for a delicious Italian ice-cream in one of the pretty cafés by the Trevi fountain and then walk in the footsteps of gladiators at the famous Colosseum. Don't forget to have your photo taken with one of the slightly more modern gladiators outside! (Overnight in Rome) B

DAY 2 - ROME
After breakfast, why not visit the Spanish Steps or stroll through the wide-open spaces of the Villa Borghese. Spend your evenings sampling the delicious Italian cuisine of Rome. Stop for a traditional wood-oven pizza in one of the charming trattorias or enjoy beautiful homemade pasta and regional desserts such as ricotta cake, made with fresh ricotta cheese mixed with sugar, vanilla and candied fruits. DAY 3 - ROME TO SORRENTO
After breakfast, make your way to the station and travel from Rome to Naples. From Naples, there is a private railway line (the Circumvesuviana) down to Sorrento. The train passes towns and villages with beautifully poetic names such as Piano, Ponte Persica and Leopardi. You can also travel by boat from Naples to Sorrento during the summer months. On arrival in Sorrento, check in at your hotel for a three-night stay. (Overnight in Sorrento) B

DAY 4 - SORRENTO
Sorrento, the city of orange and lemon groves, is one of the most beautiful destinations in Europe. Many invaders have passed through the city over the generations - the Etruscans, the Greeks, the Romans and later the Normans. The peninsula has also been home to some of the great English poets such as Byron and Keats. Take a walk through the town to discover the lovely piazzas and sample a glass of Limoncello liqueur or some traditional Sorrentine cuisine at a local restaurant. Explore Via San Nicola and the numerous other pretty streets, lined with shops selling leather, handmade gifts, spices and traditional chinaware. (Overnight in Sorrento) B

DAY 5 - SORRENTO
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and then perhaps take a boat to the glamorous island of Capri - home to celebrities, designer boutiques and delicious ice cream cafés, just 30 minutes from Sorrento's harbour. (Overnight in Sorrento) B

DAY 6 - SORRENTO TO UK
After breakfast, take the local Circumvesuviana train or boat from Sorrento to Naples and make your way to the airport and for your return to the UK. If you wish to return to the UK by train, with an overnight stop in Turin, one of our Rail Vacation Specialists would be happy to make these arrangements for you. B
