Ancient Kyoto is home to over 1,600 Buddhist temples, with many dating back more than a millennium. It is also the birthplace of Maiko and Geisha. The traditional restaurants and wooden teahouses in Hanami-koji and Pontocho are the perfect locations to spot a Geisha. Packed with UNESCO World Heritage Sites, zen gardens, ryokan inns, and beautiful cherry blossoms, Kyoto should be on every traveller’s bucket list. Not to mention, the 10,000 torii gate of the Fushimi Inari Shine is a must-visit.
