Almaty

The largest city in Kazakhstan, Almaty served as the capital until 1997, and is still its major commercial hub and cultural centre today. Almaty has a beautiful setting, surrounded by the Tien Shan Mountains, and the city is famous for its many tree-lined boulevards.
