Samarkand
Founded in the 6th century BC, Samarkand is among the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Central Asia. Profiting from its location on the Silk Road, at this time it was one of the largest cities in Central Asia. The modern-day Samarkand is divided between the old and new cities, the old city being famous for its architectural remains dating from the 14th to the 17th century.
